Listen.
All you ever do is listen, but you never hear.
Why will you not hear?
Daydreamer. Forget the news. No one knows who you are.
Turn and look into my eyes.
Listen. Hear.

Power is not something I desire, but no one will hear what I have to say.
I gaze across a sea of empty eyes, all staring at me.
They just keep listening, but they do not hear.
They expect me to say something.
My lips begin moving and I feel air cross them, but I am saying nothing.
I have said nothing because they refuse to hear.
They would hear, but they will not stop cheering me on.
Raising fists in the air, they catalyze my speech with soulless enthusiasm.

Propellant vanishes and I feel a shift in my mind, a blurring of thought.
Staring out at the empty space, I keep talking.
I can feel my eyes glaze with a gentle film.
I am no longer coherent, and everyone has disappeared.
Sweating, idly muttering, I cannot hear myself. Becoming, I can only listen.
I close my lips and search for someone to follow.
In the distance, I can see someone speaking.
I gather with countless others, searching for the speaker.
Whole, we throng forward to listen.
